FAQ

Goldendoodles and Cavapoos are companion dogs that love people and should not be left alone for long periods of time. They love exercise and being outdoors, but are considered indoor dogs and should live in your home. They need walks daily or a good hike or playtime at the park chasing a ball. A tired dog is a happy dog! And you will be happier too! Dogs with too much energy and not enough exercise will be bored and become destructive. Physical activity and mental activity is great for them. Training helps tire their mind. There are great puzzle games for them that you can order. Just google dog puzzle toys.

If you work outside of your home I recommend taking as much time off as possible to help your puppy adjust and to help potty train him/her. A puppy should not be left in a crate all day. If you can’t be home then try to come home on your lunch break to take him out to potty and have play time and a walk. You can also hire someone from rover.com or wag.com to come give your puppy a break and a walk. Or ask a friend or family member. Once your puppy is fully vaccinated they can go to doggie day care if you are going to be gone for more than 4-5 hours a day. If they absolutely have to be home alone all day use a play pen area with a litter box set up in it so that they have room to play and a place to go to the bathroom.

I highly recommend hiring a trainer to come help you train your new puppy once a week. Then spend a few minutes, several times a day, working on obedience etc. Or take your puppy to a puppy obedience class. It will be very worth your time! A well trained puppy will make everything so much easier and more enjoyable! I highly suggest signing up with Baxter and Bella (Baxterandbella.com) They are an online training program, you have live access to an actual trainer! They have a lot of information about how to set up your home for bringing home a new puppy! Use the code CHOICEPAWS for 25% off. I also recommend reading as many books as possible before bringing your new puppy home. There is a lot to learn! ( I like the books The Goldendoodle Handbook or The Cavapoo Handbook by Linda Whitwam). Or any books written by Cesar Millan, a highly regarded dog trainer. There are many resources online and you tube training videos. You can watch this training for free https://pupford.com/30-day-perfect-pup-with-zak-george/
